Dr. Bruce Squires Travel Award (8 awards of up to $500 U.S. Funds each)

Dr. Squires (1934 to 2011) was one of the founders of the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). He was a mentor to hundreds of editors and was well known in our association for his kindness, warmth, humour, and wise counsel. He gave generously of his time and helped attract many members to WAME who shared his vision that our association is a collaborative group. Dr. Squires was the Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Medical Association Journal from 1987 to 1996. He had an international reputation as an expert on medical publishing, yet was always humble. During his tenure, he was dedicated to high-quality medical journal publishing and was innovative in his approaches as to how to achieve it.

Terms and Conditions

The Dr. Bruce Squires Best Abstract Award is open to anyone whose abstract has been accepted for a poster or presentation at the WAME New Delhi Conference. The WAME Research Committee will adjudicate and WAME will announce the winners at the conference. The decision of the WAME Research Committee is final. Attendees do not need to apply for the award; all abstracts will be considered. Awardees will be presented with their award by representatives of WAME and of the Canadian Medical Association Journal/Canadian Medical Association at the conference.

The Bruce Squires Travel Award is open to any WAME member attending the WAME New Delhi Conference who meets the following criteria: attending the full conference (i.e. Oct 2 to 4), able to demonstrate financial need, and travelling from a lower middle income or low income country

Those wishing to be considered for the award should submit a letter to [email protected] by 31 August 2015. Successful applicants will be told by 31 August 2015. Decisions are final. Only one award will be given to each successful applicant.
